Holland America Ships
Holland America Line currently has a fleet of 14 ships that fit into four main classes of ships. The classes are; Statendam class, Rotterdam Class, Vista Class and Signature Class.
Within the Statendam Class you will find MS Statendam, MS Maasdam, MS Ryndam and MS Veendam who all joined the fleet between 1993 and 1996. They all underwent upgrades between October 2004 and April 2006.
The Rotterdam Class consists of MS Rotterdam, MS Volendam, MS Zaandam and MS Amsterdam. These four ships entered service for HAL between 1997 and 2000 and they underwent upgrades throughout 2005.
The Vista Class of ships includes MS Zuiderdam, MS Oosterdam, MS Westerdam and MS Noordam who all joined the fleet between 2002 and 2006. Between April 2005 and October 2006 all ships in this class except for MS Noordam underwent a signature of excellence upgrade. In May 2007 and April 2008 MS Westerdam and MS Zuiderdam underwent aft expansions. MS Oosterdam is due to undergo hers in 2009 to coincide MS Noordam.
The final class of ship is the Signature Class which at present consists of only one ship; MS Eurodam who joined the fleet in July 2008. She is expected to be joined by a new ship in 2010.
The final ship of the fleet is MS Prinsendam who joined HAL in 2002. She is not in a specific class of ship but is nicknamed ‘The Elegant Explorer’. Originally launched in 1988 as Royal Viking Sun for Royal Viking Line she then went on to operate as Seabourn Sun for Seabourn Cruise Line before arriving at Holland America Line and being renamed MS Prinsendam.
